Practical International Data Management - Linguistic variation of names

Whereas in many languages a personal name remains unchanged regardless of its linguistic context, in other languages, such as Slavic languages and Icelandic, a name grammatically declines according to how it is used.

Examples

In Polish the ending of a personal name is declined according to factors such as masculine or feminine, singular or plural, location, whether a person's is mentioned with other people's names, and so on. A Polish married woman's name can be found correctly written in a total of 72 different ways.
